The Documentary

The Inflight Food Trip- It's not just plane food! ✈

04th April 2016

This project will be a 90-minute, feature-length documentary on the backstory of airline food, including the history of the first meals (served in 1919!) and how technology and tastes have evolved to make the meals you eat today. The stars will be airlines, inflight caterers, cabin crew, frequent flyers, and the general public. Nik Loukas from Inflight Feed and I recently flew out to Riga, Latvia to visit Air Baltic and to film the initial video.

Quote:

“When Nik came to me with the initial idea for The Inflight Food Trip, I saw this project had great potential, from its scope and ambition, I love the challenge of making what seems like the impossible, possible. The shear scope of covering such a wide variety of airlines across the globe, with all the heritage and traditions of the different countries around the world, really excites me.”

“I’ve been passionate about films and filmmaking all my life, and I’ve pushed my career in that direction. I love Niks’ passion for airline food and everything to do with it and I’m looking forward to share that journey with him as we make this feature documentary. My aim is to both inform and entertain our audience, whom I hope will come away with a fresh perspective on the world of inflight food.”

(Halifax Courier, Tuesday 19 May 2015)

Rainbow Trout Films of Ripponden has become the first UK firm to win a prestigious German Agency Award for their work on a local business website.

Director James Mellor was contracted to create video animations for local business Ocean Learning Ltd, also based in Ripponden.

The animations took the prize in the film category of the German Agency Awards, which recognise creative excellence from all over Europe.

James has been in the film and television industry for more than 15 years and has worked on numerous film and TV productions including Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban, Last of The Summer Wine, London’s Burning, Doctors, Rocket Man, Wheeler Dealers, Car of the Year and The Real Holiday Show.

The company has also worked on corporate films, event filming, documentaries, feature films, TV drama, promo spots and trailers.

James said “I entered the German Agency Award at the recommendation of a client I have worked with in Berlin.

“I thought it was a great way to showcase UK talent within the European arena.

“I am thrilled we were successful, and have been able to share this award with our partners on this project.”

Paul Kenny, MD of Ocean Learning, said “When we relaunched our website we were looking for new ways to communicate our brand and our courses. We worked closely with Halifax based Prime Creative to create the new site and had the idea of using short animated films as a fresh and engaging way to communicate our message.”

“James, an experienced film-maker, worked really well with the team at Prime Creative and with local illustrator Kate Taylor to produce a series of short animations, that we thought captured the spirit of our business perfectly.”

Sue Fearnsides, director at Prime Creative, said: “We are delighted that the awards highlight the wealth of talent available here in Calderdale.

“James’s award demonstrates that our creative talents can compete with any in Europe.”

Rainbow Trout Films Wins Deutscher Agenturpreis Award for Film
(German Agency Award)

Rainbow Trout Films has become the first UK Company to win this award in the film category.

The award highlights how well bringing together of client, web design and film can really deliver great results.

I was recommended to enter, because we do some work with Berlin Design Agency MXM Design.

I had recently completed some filming for Ocean Learning of short web videos for the website. We worked collectively with Paul Kenny at Ocean Learning and the web team at Prime Creative in Halifax. This collaboration achieved some great results for all concerned and the winning of this award is icing on the cake. We will certainly enter again next year and look forward to continue to work on creative films with our clients both old and new.

"Harry Potter and the quest for news"

A FORMER Ryburn Valley pupil, now actor and director, returned to his old high school to be quizzed by students.
James Mellor, who has worked on Love Actually, Harry Potter and the TV commedy Extras, was interviewed by pupils as part of a BBC news project.
The school will be one of 100 in the country taking part in BB School Report News Day on March 22.(http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/school_report) It gives 12 and 13-year-olds the chance to make their own news and broadcast live via internet.
Deputy head teacher Honor Byford said:"The students asked James all kinds of questions about why he had become a film-maker and he told them how he was inspired to go into the media after the BBC visited his fathers's trout farm in Ripponden. The students worked on the skills of asking open questions and they wrote it as a news story.
"It is all about improving literacy skills through news," she said.
